2021 National Day of Unplugging
How often do you unplug from technology? Can you remember the last time you intentionally shut off or silenced your phone to spend quiet time with yourself? I usually unplug for a couple of hours on the weekend. Any other time, I enjoy social media. So I find myself scrolling Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, and YouTube more often than Iβm ready to admit. (One day Iβll work up the courage to share my weekly screen time report. But I want to decrease my screen time first!) So when I found out about the National Day of Unplugging, I was excited to jump on the opportunity to disconnect from the world.

The 2021 National Day of Unplugging starts at sunset this Friday, March 5, 2021, and continues through until sunset on Saturday, March 6, 2021. Iβm participating this year and encouraging you to do the same, even if you cannot disconnect for the full 24 hours! Use the time to be present. You practice self-care, spend time with your family, or simply do chores that youβve put off too many times. Iβm excited for this year because itβll be a great way to disconnect during our self-care challenge! I plan to βcelebrateβ by silencing my phone to read, plan, and practice yoga. If the weather is nice, I want to take Timber for a long walk!
The National Day of Unplugging website says that the Day promotes a healthy life and technology balance. Iβll be honest: I will still use my TV when Iβm unplugging. You can include whatever you want on the list. But my biggest struggle with technology is not TV; itβs social media and my phone. Any other time that I am intentional about disconnecting from my phone, Iβll read or find a documentary to watch. (I love zoning out while learning something new!) So I will keep my TV in the disconnect rotation and push myself to do other activities first!
