How to Reset Your Planner (and Your Mind)
Do you know how to reset your planner for the upcoming week? Planner resets are important not only for your agenda, but for your mind as well.
During my Reset Sundays series on IGTV, I shared how I spend my time on Sundays resetting my planner using different inserts: weekly, daily schedule, project management, and calendar. (Watch my favorite episode here, where I talked about planning on daily inserts!) My Sunday planning routine changed since Reset Sundays. I mean, life has changed pretty drastically and my planning style changed right along with it. For example, I rarely use a daily insert to plan for Mondays.
But one thing remains constant: resetting my planner with weekly planner products. Here are the steps:
1) Declutter by removing old inserts. The first step is to always remove any daily inserts and sticky notes used during the previous week. This step is critical for me. Have you seen my planner? Sis is thick. I need all the room I can get. So any used daily insert goes into storage, but not before I review each daily insert and sticky note to make sure I’m not leaving anything behind. I’ll usually transfer a sticky note with important information to the weekly insert for the next week.
If your planner is thick, then you can’t skip this step either! This is the time to remove anything from your planner that is not useful to you — whether that be page flags, inserts, sticky notes, planner cards, or stickers. I also use this time to revamp my agenda by replacing any dashboards and planner cards.
2) Review to-do lists and monthly overview. How can you plan for the next week without knowing what you need to accomplish? The second step is all about awareness. I can’t plan for the next week without reviewing my weekly perpetual to-do list so that I can create a new weekly to-do list with any remaining tasks. But more importantly, I need to review my monthly calendar. Both steps are essential to being aware of what’s coming so that I can get ready.
Make sure you’re aware of every meeting, appointment, errand, and task that you scheduled for the upcoming week.
3) Start planning your week. Now to our favorite part — planning. Although we all love to plan, following these steps help us to plan efficiently! Also, planner resets get you prepared for the week but also are relaxing.
