National Read a Book Day (Book Recommendations)

Sunday, September 6 is National Read a Book Day!

If you know me or read this post, you know that I absolutely love reading. This year, I plan to celebrate by finishing Untamed by Glennon Doyle. How will you celebrate?

Book Recommendations

Here are a few book recommendations if you’re looking for a new book to start:

  1. City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert (My favorite book that I read in 2019! City of Girls is a fiction story that follows the journey of a young lady as she moves from her parents' house to go live with her aunt in New York City. The characters and storyline are captivating. Check it out!)

  2. Red at the Bone by Jacqueline Woodson

  3. The Color of Law: A Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America by Richard Rothstein

  4. Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates

  5. Black Leopard, Red Wolf by Marlon James (I'll admit that I haven't finished this book. But I am working through it! I usually don't read sci-fi books but I am excited for the challenge.)

  6. The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett

  7. Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption by Bryan Stevenson (This book was a hard read. I am sensitive so I connect with books and characters easily. As a result, this book angered me so I had to take breaks when reading it.)

  8. Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng (I watched the series first and loved it so much that I wanted to read the book. Per usual, the book is amazing!)

  9. Lovecraft Country by Matt Ruff (If you follow me on Instagram, you know I love the show. This website should double as a Jonathan Majors fan account. Just kidding...)

  10. The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware (I highly recommend Ruth Ware if you're looking for mystery books to read!)

How will you celebrate National Read a Book Day? I love reading coffee while drinking a book, so check out this post for my coffee recommendations.

Happy Reading!
