Self-Care Sunday: Planning (Self-Care = Planning)
Y’all know I had to talk about planning, right? Self-care Sunday this week is all about planning!
Before I begin, though, be sure to check out last week's episode of Self-Care Sunday, where I share more info about therapy!
Planning is such an important part of my self-care practices. Here’s why:
-
Organization. Have you ever heard of the saying: messy space, messy mind. clear space, clear mind? The same is true for planning! When I am unorganized and busy with endless tasks, errands, and assignments, I can feel the stress. It feels like the stress is emanating off of me and surrounding me. But when I take time, even with a busy schedule, to sit and plan even for 5-minutes, I feel better. The act of organizing my schedule, habits, finances, or any other area that I’m planning helps me to feel at ease and carry less stress not only in my mind, but in my body as well. (I'm not the only one who believes that being organized is a form of self-care. Check out this post that argues the same thing!)
-
Accomplishment. How proud do you feel when you cross of an item on your to-do list? I can’t lie — I feel so giddy when I check items off my to-do list, no matter how big or small. Vacuumed? Check. *cue a pat on my back*
Completing items on my to-do list help me to feel proud of myself, even for the little things. We should not only celebrate the big accomplishments; the small wins deserve our love and respect as well!
-
Relaxing. Planning is also relaxing, whether or not you use planner stickers or consider yourself to be a “minimal” planner! Back in my planner sticker days (shoutout to Planner Kate), I felt so calm and relaxed while decorating my planner stickers. The vibe and level of relaxation I feel when planning is the same feelings as when I paint! This feeling makes sense though; planning is a form of art.
Let’s chat! Do you consider planning to be a part of your self-care practices?
