top 3 books i’ve read in 2022 (so far)

A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies...The man who never reads lives only one.
— George R.R. Martin

Reading is truly one of the most perfect ways to practice self-care. Whether you read to learn something new (thus practicing mental self-care) or you read to escape and live a new life (thus practicing emotional or practical self-care), there are so many benefits to reading!

At the beginning of the year, I set a goal to read 50-52 books this year. I’ll be honest with you — I am VERY far behind. But I have read great books this year.

Here are the top three books I’ve read in 2022 thus far:

1) Daisy Darker by Alice feeney

If you’re looking for a mystery/whodunnit book, I present to you Daisy Darker!

Daisy is a young woman who feels like the outcast of the family. She suffers from a medical condition that causes her heart to stop. As the reader, we’re invited to follow Daisy along as she attends a birthday celebration for her grandmother, who is turning 80 years old. Daisy and her family gather on a remote island where her grandmother’s house resides. When the tide rolls high and traps the family on the island, all hell breaks loose and Daisy’s grandmother is found dead. The question is, who is responsible for her death?

Plus, if you know Alice Feeney, you know the writing/suspense is superior. Feeney is an awesome mystery/thriller writer!

2) The Measure by Nikki Erlick

If you’re looking for a thought-provoking fiction novel, try The Measure.

Imagine you wake up one day, minding your business as if it’s a regular boring day, and you notice that there’s a box at your door. You look around and see that your neighbors have boxes near their doors too. You open that box and you see a simple string.

In The Measure, we follow the stories of different characters as they discover that the meaning of the string represents the length of their life. The characters are forced to grapple with tough life decisions, including whether to even open their box.

How would you spend your life if you knew how long your life would be?

3) Memphis by Tara M. Stringfellow

If you’re looking for a moving fictional story that centers on women in the south, try Memphis: A Novel.

This story follows the lives of three women (multiple generations) as they navigate life and its hardships over a 70-year timeframe. The women deal with life’s various problems, from financial issues, racism, and more, all while maintaining happiness and their passions. Despite the hardship, they always have each other.

Honorable Mention: Profit First by Mike Michalowicz

I love reading non-fiction or “self-help” books as well. I am currently reading Profit First, which teaches you a different way of approaching your business finances. Instead of following the GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), the book teaches you how to take your profit first.

I’m always looking for book recommendations? What are some of the top books you’ve read this year?
