Unique Ways to Practice Gratitude Throughout the Day

I practice gratitude daily. But sometimes, a gratitude prompt asks me to think about my answers to the prompt throughout the day! I love these sort of prompts. Gratitude practice is not something that should just happen once a week or once a day. Gratitude should be a mindset you carry throughout the day. Here are a few ways I will incorporate today's gratitude prompt during my day.

Today's Gratitude Prompt

"Write down three things you are grateful for. How can you remind yourself of these three things throughout the day?"

I want to use this prompt during the work week (aka, when I need the most help with cultivating a positive attitude). Practicing gratitude daily, either in the morning or at night, is great. But what happens when you are having a tough day and feel defeated? How is the gratitude you practice in the morning at 6:00AM going to help you at 3:00PM the same day when your job is stressing you out? (It probably won't if you're like me.) This was a hard lesson for me to learn. So, until I am better at gratitude practice, I have to incorporate the practice throughout the day.

I need to work on my responses for this prompt! In the meantime, here's how I will remember and meditate on my three responses throughout the day:

1) Sticky Notes

Of course I use my planner to practice gratitude! I can write my answers to the gratitude prompt on a sticky note and place it on my daily or weekly insert. I refer to my planner throughout the day (some days more than others). So this method is also great because I will see the sticky note and be reminded of the things/place/person I am grateful for that day. (The only problem is that sometimes I don't refer to my planner as frequently as I do on other days. If you have the same problem, try one of the phone options below! Another option is to put the sticky notes on your desk/work area where you can see them.)

2) Phone Reminders

I love planning on paper but I also need my phone to remind me of tasks, appointments, or meetings too. My phone can help me practice gratitude too! If you are a digital planner or you reference your phone frequently throughout the day, then this method might be for you. Here are a few ideas:

a) Write your answers in the Reminders app on your phone.

I already use this method to write my weekly affirmations and keep them on my phone's home screen. I made list titled "Affirmations", type 4-5 affirmations for the week, and place that list as a widget on my home screen. Why not do the same thing for gratitude?

b) Write your answers as calendar events or alarms and schedule them throughout the day.

I love this option because it takes the responsibility away from me. I don't have to look at my phone or check my planner because my phone will notify me when it's time to check the gratitude list. If you are busy throughout the day, this might be a good option for you too!

How will you remember the things that you are grateful for throughout the day? Will you use one of the methods above?
